BILL HUGHE'S RIDE
In 1966-1967 Friday Night Lights were bright in The Casa Del Sol at 401 Stasney. This is
where several AYI participants gathered in the apartment of Henderson, Banwart, and
Magarian to engage in learning more about the rules according to Hoyle. In the smoke filled
room and money on the table the AYI Aggie men participated in a friendly game of Poker. Of
course as the game progressed, so did the beer consumption for some. One night one of our
fun loving participants asked me to go to the laundry room with him. I had no idea what Bill
Hughes had in mind, but he asked if I had a quarter and upon replying, "Yes!" I said, "But
what do you want it for?" He said, "I'll show you in the laundry room!" he said in a slurred
voice. Upon entering the laundry room, which was next door to our apartment, Bill, being only
about 5' 6", crawled into one of the dryers and declared, "Give me a ride!!" So, I complied
and stuck a quarter in and watched Bill spin around a few times and then I feared he was
going get hurt so I quickly opened he door and he fell out. Bill thought his ride was great, but
upon questioning him the next day for some reason he did not remember the ride.
