Richard, Roger Banwart and I roomed together during our Academic Year Institute at
Texas A&M. One of the first things I remember is Richard telling what happened at a local restaurant the first
day in College Station. I did not go with them, but the way I understand it,
it was at a restaurant somewhere West of College station, perhaps out HWY. 21. The waitress brought them
menus and Richard asked, "What would you recommend?" and she answered in her best "Country Texan".
"Well our FILL-IT-MIG-NONS are pretty good!!" Welcome to Texas "Country", Richard!! After a good laugh, I
think he ordered it.
Richard and I quickly became great friends and still are today. Over the years we have exchanged
messages VIA the phone, emails or letters. I fondly remember Richard speaking
of his Armenian Father and his trade, which was repairing shoes. There was much pride shown when he spoke
of his Father. After he returned to Providence, Rd., he married his sweetheart. He was the only one of the
three who had their futures outlined at the time.
Richard drove a T-Bird, late model, but I don't remember the year. I do remember the color.
At least I think I do.....It was Maroon. A fitting color for A&M. He traveled around campus on his Vespa motor
scooter and several occasions I rode on the back with him.
Richard, I will always cherish our friendship and our time together at Texas A&M,
Wishing you the best.
