September 1, 1932 – February 4, 2014
Donald Jensen passed away on February 4, 2014 surrounded by his family. A
visitation for friends and family will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm, Friday,
February 7 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home, 3001 South College Ave, Bryan,
Texas.
Don was born on September 1, 1932 in McKeesport, PA to Elizabeth and Vincent
Jensen. He was a man that always valued hard work starting from his early jobs
as a paperboy and gas station attendant to later becoming a teacher, and
working at the National Science Foundation and the Atomic Energy Commission. He
enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 at the age of 20 and served his
country proudly for over 39 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in
1991. He had enlisted as a Boatswain’s Mate and finalized his career as Flight
Director on the USS Lexington, where he became a plank owner during the Korean
War. He later became a dedicated member of the American Legion Post #159. As an
entrepreneur, he started a real estate business that he grew and passed on to
his sons all the while earning many degrees starting at the University of Ohio
and ending at TAMU.
Don always loved meeting new people but especially enjoyed time shared with his
large family. He is proceeded in death by his parents Elizabeth Jensen Vukovcan and Vincent Jensen, sister and brother-in-law,
Claire and Bucky Painter, and great grandson Garrett Haney. He is survived by
his sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Robert Swartz as well as his 9
children, Connie Janac, Barbara Hulsey, Susan Jimerson, Jo Jensen, Robert Jensen, James Jensen, Erik
Jensen, Andrew Jensen, Karina Zugaj and their spouses
and his companion, Wilma Green. He was the proud grandfather of 13
grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed; even the
tricks he would play on his children, which will continue to be passed down to
future generations in his memory.
The family would like to thank Brazos Valley Hospice for their support during
this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be
made to the American Legion Post 159, 101 Waco Street, Bryan, 77801 or Hospice
